but yet with lustrous body, absolutely indifferent to the surroundings, immersed in unalloyed supreme Bliss. It was in
this Avatara, Bhagawan Datta Blessed King Yadu and Bhakta Sikhamani Prahlada with divine enlightehment and liberation.
In the case of King Yadu, the digambara when asked said "I have accepted twenty four Gurus observing their qualities they
represent, and realising the great significance implied, I have become wise and blissful" I have learnt dispassion and discrimination, Left off any regard for the body. I move completely free from any attachment. Human body is for self-enlightenment." King Yadu by the grace of Lord Dattatreya-Digambara got enlightened and fully liberated.

     Also in the case of Prahlada, the son of Hiranyakasipu, who took delight in the Baghavata Dharma by the instruction of
Narada did not attain supreme peace. He was feeling Ashanti inspite of becoming a monarch after his father Hiranyakasipa was annihilated by Lord VIshnu, as he did not have that Atma-Jnana After a time Prahlada felt disgusted with his regal life and he came to a forest under the pretext of hunting. Fortunately he could see, Digambara - Avadhuta. Having seen the cheerful form of the Digambara Avadhuta, Prahlada felt an irresistible attraction by His divine effulgence. Prahlada approached Him in great reverence and requested to tell him how to obtain that Supreme Bliss. Then Digambara replied 'God Vishnu incarnated as Nrisimha for you, as you were his beloved Devotee and annihilated your father the demonic Hiranyakasipu, You are ripe for attaining that Supreme knowledge. One should merge all doubts in Chitta and Chitta in the mind. mind in the ego' ego in the Maya, Maya in the Self. One should remain as self, knowing for certain that atman alone is Paramatman. This
wisdom should be firmly fixed and in self, This is the secret Prahlada at the command of Dattatreya Digambara ruled the Kingdom in a detached spirit, later handed over the Kingdom to his son and remained immersed in the supreme spirit with
Brahma Jnana, finally attained Kaivalya.

      In the same avatara of Datta-Digambara, one Sadhya Deva came and bowed down and asked for the path of beatitude.
Digambara told "One should give up desire, anger,pride, egoism and contemplate on the ultimate principle, one should keep up
his mind in equanimity in times of success, defeat, pain and pleasure Looking at His unique form and listening to His divine words, Sadhya Deva, beseeched for His anugraha and Digambara, the all-merciful blessed him with enlightenment. It was in this avatara, Kartaveeryarjuna, derived liberation by meditating over his form, Veda Dharma by uttering His Name,
Deepika by listening to His leelas, Vishnu Datta by worshiping at His feet, King Alarka by service, Ayuraga by salutation, Parasurama by surrendering, derived liberation from Lord Datta- Digambara. Bhagawan took this Avatara of Digambara on full moon day of first half of Asvina, on Wednesday at Sunrise. An avatara celestial and most distinguished for having blessed
numerous puranic personalities with Kaivalya is Datta Digambara.

Deva Deva

      This was a narration of Markandeya, according to which Bhagawan gave darshan to Brahma as Deva-Deva who came
with his retinue to see him. It was on the fourteenth day of the first half of Bhadrapada on Thursday, Bhagawan appeared as Deva-Deva was effulgent with the divine splendour, unparalleled
and indescribable. Brahma, residing in Satya Loka came to the hermitage of Dattatreya who then was in the form of DevaDeva. Brahma seeing him prostrated "O' Bhagawan, victory to you, O, omnicreator, giver of delight and supreme Bliss to Paramahamsas, to be worshipped by all.

I am blessed by your darshan, bestow upon me your grace, and bless me that I am
free from birth and death." Then Deva - Deva said "Brahma, it is a divine design your Karma has come to an end, you shall be absolved in My real nature along with the sages around you" Thus Brahma along with the sages were merged in the
real nature of Deva-Deva. An avatara of utmost significance is this to get liberation.

         Pingala Naga, once, noticed, Bhagawan seated under an Amlaka tree at the holy, Mahura reciting the Vedas. Pingala
finding Bhagawan in a very peculiar state questioned him "o Lord ! What is this stage of your life. It is neither Brahmacharin
as there is neither loin-cloth, nor the girdle of Munja grass, nor that of an householder as there is m) as there is no practice of penance, but you are naked and enjoying the company of a woman and wine ?" The Lord smilingly in great benevolence said", This stage in which I am now is the fifth stage, quite different from the normal four stages of life of all human beings. You might not have heard nor seen so far. This
stage is wherein I look upon this whole world as self, remain disinterested, free from all dwandwas, from all gunas. Always
remaining in perfect equipoise or Samarasa is the fifth stage" Saying so Bhagawan manifested immediately in an extremely
handsome and captivatingly effulgent form of an auspicious "SIVA-RUPA." This incannation came into existence on the
eighth day of the first half of Shravana on Monday. Having seen this Pingala got thrilled, amazed and prostrating said, Hey!Bhagawan forgive me out of ignorance out of bewilderment I questioned you. Pray bless me and liberate me".

The 12th incarnation of "AADI GURU"

       On the full moon day of ashadha on saturday, bhagawan dattatreya appeared as the adi-guru (first teacher). king Alarka, who went in search of saints, to learn to be free from attachment and desires, found Bhagawan on Sahyadri Mountain.
Alarka went and on seeing Him completely surrendered himself, saying"O Lord, be pleased with me. Liberate me from desolation, disgrace and misery, by your grace (anugraha)". Listening to it Datta laughed and said"O, King you are embedded in Maya. Reflect over who you are, why you are miserable. You will
realise what you are, why you arc neither the five elements constituting your body, but you are something higher, eternal
and sublime".

      Thus initiated by Lord Datta, king Alarka began deeply reflecting over and by the Lord's Grace, realised that those wno
consider the body to be the "I", are miserable, not knowing the falseness of its nature. Those that have attachment to the body and the world are deluded by worldly temptation of power pelf, honour. But now Alarka realising said to himself, "I have neither a friend nor a foe, honour or dishonour, Kingdom or no Kingdom, should not matter at all." Formerly, I was feeling
utmost misery due to ignorance or Maya. Now by the grace of the Lord my Adi-Guru, l feel all that ignorance has perished
and vanished, feel free from attachment, higher than Prakriti in which I am enshrowded. Let my elder brother who usurped my Kingdom, let him have it and be happy". Datta pleased with King Alarka said" O King, you are enlightened, be firm and determined. Now there is neither "Mine", nor "I" in you. You are liberated'. King Alarka left in great ecstasy of spiritual enlightenment.

The mendicant Avadhuta walking
away into the forest, sat under a tree in deep meditation. Some of the Brahmins who were anxious to see the disappered mendicant went into the forest with the hope of finding him, To their great surprising joy, they found him seated under a tree in meditation. When they approached him, they found instead of the mendicant, prowling tigers, serpents and frightful animals. Inspite of the
frightening scene in front, they did not run away but stuck to the place, reverently praying that He should not abandon them.
Thus, Bhagawan pleased with their earnestness and ferrour of devotion, appeared in Maya-Mukta-Avadhuta-Avatara. He was with a very handsome. charming woman on his lap and
startled singing along with her. He found the Brahmins not getting away even at seeing Him in that condition.

      Then Bhagawan began sporting with her, drinking wine and eating meat. However, seeing Him doing all these they were not
deterred. Then they were Blessed by Bhagawan who were found with-standing all the tests they were put to. It was in
this form of Maya-Muktha-Avadhuta, He enlightened King Kartaveerya Arjuna and Parasurama, the two great celebrities of Puranic age, He appered on the Thirteenth day of Jyeshtha on the Swathi Constellation on Thursday at Sun-rise. This-avatara is one which when worshipped would endow spiritual enlightenment and Kaivalya in the end.

  1. The 10th incarnation of "maya avadhuta"
      Once, in order to test the devotion of His loving devotees, Bhagawan appeared as a mendicant Avadhuta. He entered the house of a pious Brahmin by name Sheela on a Shraddha Day. The mendicant young in age, lustrous with golden hue, wearing a loin cloth had a begging bowl and a staff in his hands. All of a sudden he came in and occupied one of the seats meant for Bhoktas. He was accompanied by a dark black dog. The brahmins on seeing him became furious for they felt his presence with a dog as a sacrilege and with disdain
harshly questioned, "Who are you ?" "l am formless" was the reply. Some how Sheela recognised him as Bhagawan Datta,
saluted him and with utmost respect, offered the food prepared for shraddha with ghee, honey as is customary to treat a bhokta on the occasion Sheela prostrated again and again seeking His benign Blessings to himself to his forefathers as well. The other Brahmins who were witnessing all this got enraged, spoke ill of Sheela and cursing him went out and gathered together all the Brahmins of the village and narrated the decadent, disgraceful act of Sheela and how he defiled the whole shraddha karma by entertaining the mendicant accompanied by his dog. The Brahmins of the village could not tolerate such a sacrilegious act from one of their own Brahmin community and so they all marched towards Sheela's house in
great wrath. On finding the mendicant they harshly said, "O wretched, unbrahminic beggar, why have you  come here and

what authority you have to destroy the sacred Brahmana Karma in this manner ?" The mendicant, unruffled coolly replied" Tell me what is Brahma and what is Karma I know only Atman." Some scholarly Brahmin among the group came forward and tried to answer him saying:" Brahma is the imperishable syllable OM, Karma is two fold, permanent and occasional as immediately indicatedvby the Vedas"
questioned them, "What are the Vedas? and what have they indicated to you? . The Brahmins said "Vedas are four fold. You are wretched, a fallen fellow, unworthy to listen about mendicant Vedas. How can we tell you about them l" The mendicant
calmly said " As I am free from Maya, I have no need, nor right for Vedas I do not touch any action tainted by Guna similar to a
a dog. I am possessed of the Self.
I do not touch a dog with a mind engrossed in Maya. This dog is learned, knower of all
the Vedas and Shastras and possessor of Brahma Jnana, worthy to be my companion."

       The Brahmins were stunned and stupified at the dog reciting Vedas at the instruction of the mendicant. The monk coolly walked away, blessing Sheela, into a near-by forest, Seeing this, the Brahmins recogniseed him to be the omniscient God and prayed to Him,"O Bhagawan, the All merciful, we were steeped in such ignorance, we could not recognise though you have come and was with us. Forgive us. pray protect us along with our family, and may we not be cursed for what we did out of sheer ignorance and Maya." This incarnation of Maya Avadhuta appeared on Wednesday at Mid-day on Vaishaka Chaturdashi
on the Swati constellation.

      In ordered to observe the actions of his siddha-devotees and how far they have been truly following , Bhagavan assumed
the form of an Avadnuta. He went to them and observed their behaviour. He saw some of them free from thoughts of desire,
some with distracted minds. some still egoistic and a few still defiled by desire, lust and anger, and a very few following His
instructions meticulously. Bhagawan pitying them tried to release their minds from all the defiling, distracting nature and
turn their intellect towards the acquisition of knowledge of Self. The affect was only for a short time. Bhagwan noticed that
they were apt to slip back into their previous condition, and cautioned them to beware of their precondition. Siddhas
recognising in Him Lord Datta. prayerfully said, "O Datta, all merciful, all-compassionate, kindiy protect us. We find it very difficult to practise what al you have instructed. Our fickle minds run amock, often. We are in every sense, weaklings, without your grace, unless, ever correcting us we will not be able to progress'". Having heard, Dattatreya assumed the cosmic form of Viswambara Avadhuta It was on full moon day of Chaitra of Chitra constellation on Tuesday, the Lord assumed the form of Viswambara Avadhuta.

This form was extremely lustrous,
multi-coloured, This form is the resort of birth, sustenance and disssolutlon of the world. In that form, Bhagwan addressed them further, "I am the refuge of Maya. I am free from all attributes, forms, I am all - witnessing and omnipresent. I am free from all actions. Advise you to do mantra-japa and practise Yoga. Be rest assured that those who constantly remember
Me at all times and in all circumstances, will be liberated." Having said that, he withdrew his cosmic form and assumed
his former form of an Avadhuta and disappeared.

Bhagawan Sri Datta once looked at the Siddhas and reflected, "Man is not free. because desire is the main propeller and anger is the agent. All this world revolves round desire.
It is pervaded by anxiety and inevitably resulting in misery.
It is the desire that is the main cause for a man to go astray and
at times commit acts of sin, prompts to do things which one
normally desists to do
Desires are unsatiable and unless one curbs this unbridled horse, it would throw out its rider causing
grievous hurt. To overcome desire, only the weapon is acquisition of enlightenment or Jnana". Hence, Bhagawan  assumed the form of a Jnanin, This incarnation of Jnana-Sagara took place on the tenth day of the first half of Phalguna on Sunday on Punarvasa constellation. In the assembly of Siddhas. Bhagawan occupied seat high in the air. The Siddhas felt stupidly, belittled and became intolerant. They foolishly tried to bring him down, but failed miserably as wind fails in moving

a mountain. Then the Siddhas struck with wonder and remorse.
began to question him and he answered thus, (1) "Who are you?" i am of an unrecognisable nature". (2) "Who is your Guru?," "I have no Guru". Finding that their false pride and egoism blinded their vision and so could not realise the true nature
of the person in front, realising then that He was the Supreme Soul, they reverentially addressed Him. "O God of Gods! We have actually become powerful only due to your grace. Foolishly, with that power itself, we tried to pull you down from your seat, But we found our arrogance and pride chided when our attempt miserably failed. Then Bhagawan replied, "The wind that moves every
thing cannot move the sky, because the sky is indivisible and is the very cause of the wind. Similarly I am the cause of all free entirely from all modifications. My nature is eternal; I am the all pervading omniscient Brahma with no gunas, (qualities).

So the Siddhas you are helpless because you are still plagued
by desires, Desires create delusions resulting in misery. From desire arises emotions, anger and all that degrades a man. Be free from desires, then the entry into the kingdom of enlightenment is possible." Siddhas, then, in great emotional fervour said, "O Master, God of Gods, protect us by your grace (anugraha). Though we know that desire is our greatest enemy
unfortunately we could not conquer it. Then Jnana Sagara directed them, "Please Me by reciting my name constantly, by devotion to me with unfaltering faith, get enlightened and liberated." Advising them thus Jnana Sagara directed them to the practice of Jnana which alone matters in the final.

The 7th incarnation of "siddharaja"

       Leela Viswambhara concealed His real form and roamed about and came to Badri Vana. There were many Siddhas. Having been endowed with Siddhis they were indulging in fulfilling their desires, with lust, anger and egoism playing a powerful part. Among them were naked. non naked, silent, and non-silent, apparently immersed in meditation and at times were hotly discussing the comparison of the Siddhis of one with another. Bhagawan came and sat behind them. They mistook him to be also one of their tribe. Though they were amazed to see His effulgency, charmful form, they could not recognise him. Then ensued questions by them and answered by Bhagawan Dattatreya. (1 "Who are you ?", I am of unrecognizable form" (2) "Which your refuge ?" i am without a refuge, without a Master (3)"Who is your Guru ?" "have no Guru" (4) What is the Yoga you practise " am without any action," Mine is Chitta-yoga" (5) "What is your path ?" ' Not accessible to others, it is of nature of pure Bliss. What is your Mudra?My Mudra is Niranjani."

      While these questions and answerswere going on, urprisingly, Rudras, Vasus, Adityas and Marutis traversing the aerial-path suddenly felt a tremendous down-ward pull and were found impeded in their travel. The several Siddhas noticing it, each one was vainly claiming that it was due to the power of his Siddhi Bhagawan who remained a silent spectator, after a time said" Among you, whosoever by his Siddhi could cause their fall, should be able also to cause them go up. So let each one of you try and that would easily settle the matter whose Siddhi is more powerful." They all tried one by one asking the impeded Vasus, Adityas and Maruts experiencing down pull to go up But none worked. Then the silent Bhagawan said "Oh! You Rudras, Vasus, Adityas and Maruts, you go unimpeded." The Siddhas found to their utter consternation the word of the sage sitting behind them worked out and all
of them continued their aerial travel. All the Siddhas felt ashamed and instantly realised that he is no other than Lord Dattatreya, the Supreme Power. They reverentially bowed down to him and beseeched His anugraha. Bhagawan then said "I am the supreme yogin, the God of Gods. the perfect Purusha,
Omniscient I am pleased with you. Ask any boon from me," They prayed to Him in all reverence." Give us the Yoga of yours and entire devotion to you". Bhagawan pleased with their humility and egolessness, bestowed upon them supreme knowledge in the form of mantras (hymns) with their
seeds "Beejakshara." This wonderful form of "Siddharaja," most auspicious for meditation, it appeared before them on the full-moon day of Magha constellation, on Thursday. They Worshipped and derived Kaivalya, the goal of life.

The 6th incarnation of "leela vishvambhara"

      Sri Datta's Sri Avatar is the love and immense compassion of children. Once in the world there was a terrible famine. Animals did not get water and food, they argued. Citizens were bullied by thieves and robbers. The homa hawans ceased to perform their daily rituals. They all surrendered to Sri Dattatreya, who was in the bosom of the deity. Daughters dissolved into their prayers as 'Leela Vishwambhara' before them, alleviating their lack of food and clothing. Then he told the devotees, "This life is like a great forest. The mountain of pride is surrounded by trees, vines and plants. Lust is like a fierce lion; wrath is like a snake. Then the scene was gone. Shri Dutt smiled at the devotees asking where the fearful forest disappeared. “Hey soul To? He asked. In response, Sridat replied, "I can find myself with good deeds and unique devotion."

      The incarnation of yogijana Vallabha, gives accomplishment, in yoga to yogins. living in their midst. Sri Datta in the form of Kalagni - samana sitting on the lap of his dear mother Anasuya in the form of an exquisite child, sports, lovingly to the great delight of his mother. While Bhagwan was thus
sporting, once, sages, and mankind were suffering miserably due to excessive rains, HE stopped the great deluge and by His power provided them with food and protected them from the hallowing havoc of torrential rains He showed them out of Magnanimous compassion, multifarious cosmic forms, as "Leela Viswambhara." They were overwhelmed by the wonderful experiential opportunity they had. All praised "Leela
Viswambhara" in great ecstasy. His form was casting such a spell of attraction and admiration, that their only wish was to eternally stay with him and be constantly feasting the charmful beauty of his appearance.

      Leela Viswambhara at times
found, teaching Vedas to his disciples, at times immersed in deep Samadhi, Once Datta (Leela Viswambhara) transformed the worldly existence into a
veritable forest; Ego became a mountain, desire a lion, wrath the
horses, mind the lake, rituals the trees. abounded with fruits. Having
shown the forest, Bhagwan said,"
This forest is tormenting. The fruits
very charming and attractive. But on discrimination they do not deserve to be possessed they are poisonous and fatally dangerous. one desirous of well-being should not stay for long as desireto
possess the fruits would become irressistable. But they did not
listen to and avoid remaining in proximity to delusion and they
secretly were enjoying, eating the fruits, so enticing to them."
When this was going on Bhagwan disappeared. The sages and
men began to erave for them and grieve when they could not
get him, sufficiently, to satisfy their longing. All this submerged
them in utter misery.

        Bhagawan took pity and put an end to that illusory forest. Then Bhagwan Datta appeared They were pleasantly
wonder struck to see Him once again and asked him "Bhagwan where is the forest and the fruits?" Bhagawan laughed and
said" The forest and the fruits went where from they have come," the wordly existence is also like this It is enticing bringing only misery. One should be aware of its transient nature and should shun them and turn their minds to acquire the knowledge of the self, the treasure of eternal Bliss". Realising
the great significance in the words of the Lord, they asked" 'O Bhagawan, What is self? How shall we know it, Kindly take pity on us and instruct us and, You are our saviour, you are truly our refuge". Then Datta replied, "I am the Self of ail. I am known by unflinching desire and devotion towards me. Then they asked, "How shall we obtain salvation? We are eager to remain in your benign presence and obtain the enlightenment required for self-realisation. Kindly be gracious and help us. We cannot live without seeing you and remaining in your presence even, for a moment". Bhagawan saw their attachment and wanted to teach them that attachment is inimical to realisation through Yoga. Suddenly Bhagawan disappeared immersing himself in a lake nearby. Their attachment for him was so strong they remained on the bank for hundred years with the fond hope of his emerging out of the lake once again. Lo! Bhagawan came out of the water of the lake with an illusory lady on his lap engaged in wine drinking. Bhagawan thought that they would be beguiled to see their Bhagawan in such degraded state and leave him in sheer disgust. A few only remained realising that what they are seeing is only a veil
spread out by Bhagawan to test their earnestness, to rise up and
obtain the goal of life, self-realisation. Thus thay were fortunate to be instructed and they followed meticulously the
instructions keeping in view of the various temptations and pitfalls that they would encounter in their spiritual march of journey beforereaching thedestination successfully. thisincarnation took place on Pushya constellation on Wednesdayat the time of sun-rise. One should worship Him in this formof Leela Viswambhara and is sure of reaching the highest stag of self-realisation.
